I am a permanent researcher at Centro Brasileiro de Pesquisas Físicas, a governmental research unit based in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, working under the National Ministry of Sciences, Technology, and Innovation. Here, I lead research focusing on quantum-optical interactions in materials, and how to harness and engineer symmetries at the nanoscale to gain functionalities for quantum applications.
Before this, I spent two years as a postdoctoral researcher funded by the Dutch Research Council via a Rubicon Grant at the Cavendish Laboratory of the University of Cambridge, in the group of Prof. Mete Atature. There, I investigated atomic defects and excitons in 2D materials.
I completed a PhD thesis at the University of Groningen under the supervision of Prof. Caspar van der Wal, which was awarded the2022 Ehrenfest-Afanassjewa thesis prize by the Dutch Physics Council. I have also received the 2022 New Journal of Physics Early Career Award, and an honourable mention for the 2022 For Women In Science Rising Talent Prize by the L’Oréal Netherlands and Netherlands Commission for Unesco.
